EMULSION REPRODUCTION

Print Reproduction

A controlled photographic workflow for reproducing original photographic prints as stable digital files.

Photographic Print Reproduction

Photographic prints are reproduced individually using controlled lighting, calibrated capture, and careful file preparation. Each original is evaluated as a photograph, not processed as a bulk scan. The goal is to create a stable digital file that preserves the character of the original print while producing a clean, usable reproduction.

Black & White Photographs

Neutral B&W Reproduction

Aged black-and-white originals are normally prepared as neutral grayscale digital files. This emphasizes the photographic image and reduces the visual effect of yellowing, staining, or paper discoloration.

Original Tone Reproduction

When the visible tone of the original print is important, we can attempt to preserve the warm, cool, sepia, or aged paper tone present in the photograph. Exact matching is not possible, but the goal is to retain the character of the original.

Color Photographs

Original Print Appearance

Reproduces the photograph substantially as it exists today, including its visible color character, fading, density, and contrast. This is the standard option when preserving the appearance of the surviving print is the priority.

Enhanced Reproduction

Adjusts age-related fading, color shift, density loss, and contrast loss to produce a more natural-looking photograph while preserving the character of the original image. Enhanced Reproduction includes both the faithful version and the enhanced version.

Unique Reproductions

Non-photographic originals are welcome, but require individual evaluation before pricing.

Framed originals, items under glass, mounted originals, artwork, textured surfaces, fragile materials, and unusually sized pieces require review before acceptance and pricing. These projects will require specialized handling.

Print Reproduction Pricing

Pricing is based on the physical size of the original print and the number of originals in that size. Each original is photographed using a controlled reproduction workflow and prepared as a stable digital file.
